Lake Ouachita State Park

Post by lbaker » Wed Aug 27, 2008 6:46 pm

Do they rent kayaks/canoes? I'm trying to help a friend rethink her vacation with her kids and grandkids. We live in NE TX and they were planning on leaving Fri for North Padre Is. I mentioned how gorgeous the lake was and that there were the crystal mines, etc close by. Would there be any chance they could camp, hike and paddle there at this late date? I'm guessing the state park would be full already, but are there other options?
Thanks in advance,
Leigh

There is also a great golf course at Glenwood http://www.golfglenwood.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

More than likely the campground will be full since it is labor day weekend BUT it would be best to call and check and if they happen to have an opening, then go ahead and make a reservation for a campsite. They rent both canoes and kayaks and I'm sure there are a lot of interpretive programs also going on this weekend.

If they tent camp, I would recommend they attempt to get in Area A in the walk-in sites. (There's not too much walking-in to do, but in my opinion, they are the best sites at the park.)

Good luck with the holiday planning.

Thanks all! I'd instructed her to google some sites, and that I'd ask the natives :wink: Thanks for the info

There is a gazillion hotels in Hot springs. It is also Blues Fest weekend there, so rooming on the cheap might be a little tougher.
