Dutch Oven Cookoff at Rendezvous

Okay, it's on!! Mike Byrum has donated several Lodge prizes and I'll try to round up something else appropriate. Cooking will start at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13th, across from the Canteen at the usual place. Bring your own charcoal, lighter, and cooking-gear and aluminum trays to keep your coals off the ground.

Here are the rules:

First, the judges won't care if stuff is made ready for assembly before folks get to the site.

Second, there will be judging for Breakfast, Dinner, and Desert catagories.

Third, if it's ready on time to feed the judges at 4:15 sharp, it gets judged. If not, we'll eat it anyway...

That sums up the rules... no holds barred, but no kicking, scratching, or biting the judges!! AND, no complaining about the results!! So, if you want it... get it on!

Mike, surely Roger and Gordon aren't going to let you take home your own prizes! What about Dave Reid and Bobby Stout? Jim Krueger? Tammy? Come on... If y'all will get at least ten entries, I have a pretty nice prize I may part with... may...

I don't respond to posers! :poke: I let my cooking do the talking! :roll: BTW, Crane, I think my dear old mama will be up to judging again this year! She did ask me about it. Said she would bring a bunch of Spudnuts up for whoever!

And I think Ms. Dodson is planning to throw down too!

The DO MFWIC will be considering all offers of payment to be/buy a judge. However, it won't come cheaply!! Though, Spudnuts is a good start! How do they go with Margaritas?

Spudnuts! Did I hear Spudnuts! In 1957 I sold Spudnuts door to door. They weren't cheap. 60¢ a dozen. That was 1957. . . not 2008. I ate all the profits.

I think I will enter the contest this year. Dinner category. No point entering a dessert when there are Spudnuts around.

Do you light the charcoal at 3pm or start cooking at 3pm?

Richard,

I'm going to go ahead and answer for Crane. I don't think here cares what time the coals are ignited.

You could probably show up a few days early and make your own charcoal or cook with a flame thrower and Larry wouldn't care as long as it is ready at 4:15.

Richard, mom is only bringing the taternuts to ensure a spot on the judging committee. Other than that, I will ask her to save a couple for you since you are an okay guy. So, what are you cooking for second place prizes? :poke: :lol:

No Roger, I am still my T-Totalling self.
I need the beer for the grand prize recipe.

This is what I am looking for in the way of beer:
Blue Moon. It is a Belgian style white ale and it has incredible depth.
Or any decent Pilsner. No dark beer will do.

Mike speaks the truth about when you can light up... Just make sure you're ready to serve the outstanding panel of judges at 4:15... We have an offer of Spudnuts on the table to bribe your mother's way into a judging slot, but I figure we can possibly do better. As I recall, Mike B plans to cook and he makes some fine products of his own!! BTW, the MFWIC also tastes, so bring plates or bowls adequate to serve five portions to the judges and staff.

Richard, don't be offended by Roger's reply. I asked him to pick up cheese for me from Cooking Secrets in Batesville for a possible breakfast entry. He told me to get it myself, that both you and I could get our own ingredients if we want to compete with him. :roll:

We had Blue Moon in the house this summer but do not have it now, and I rarely am near a store that would sell it. May I suggest you call Rafferty's on the southern edge of Little Rock and ask them to hold some for you? I'm not sure, but do you think it's a summer beer you're after? I think Blue Moon has coriander in it. Hey, if you grab a six-pack, I'll buy it off you at Couchdale. Just let me be your assistant if I decide not to cook myself. :) I'll make sure "Mom" saves you some spudnuts.
