We are looking at floating Remmel to Rockport this Sunday. Is a canoe a good option or should be just go tubes? Floating with kids 8 to 12 years old. I've never done this float so recommendations welcome! Distance??? Estimated time to float???

Thanks!

Canoes are just fine, many of us who regularly float this stretch do so in kayaks and canoes. Many folks also do float it on tubes and air mattresses, with the dam-released flow, it is very popular. However, in the last half of the float the river gets a little wider and slower, and with the added usual headwind, can make that part of the float on tubes rather a drag.
The section is five miles in length, and usually we spend about three hours floating it in boats (taking a liberal rest stop about two miles into the trip, and a shorter on just upstream of the ledge) Float time with drifting in tubes can run substantially longer.

Best Regards
Jim

Thanks Jim. Any thoughts on where we can rent canoes? It's my understanding there are no outfitters.

Yes, Saline River Canoe, they are an outfitter on the Saline River here in Benton, look them on online. They are great folks! They operate their business here on the Saline River until it gets too low, then move down to that section for the balance of the summer. I don't think they have moved down there yet because the water is staying at OK levels here presently, so you might want to consider a trip on the Saline for this weekend. At any rate, do check them out, visit, and decide, I'm sure it will be a nice day!
