UALR Pool

Post by darkaly » Mon Jan 13, 2014 5:06 pm

We have permission to use UALR's pool this Wednesday for practice from six to eight. There's a swim meet on Saturday, though, so this weekend we'll have to play outside instead.

i'm going to try to make it, but with my work I'm only 50/50. But sometimes I know I have zero chance of making it, so 50/50 chance is actually not bad. 8)

Can someone fill me in on this? We are new to Little Rock. I have not paddled in a decade and Gina just got her first boat for Christmas and has almost no time on the water. I would like to start her off right, and think a little pool time right now would be great. We are a couple of "old folks" trying to have a little fun. Thanks, Harry.

there is a link on the acc homepage with a map for parking across from the pool. my third trip, and so far I've only seen/spoke to an (ualr) employee in the club TT. :crossed: :crossed:

Since we are back to our 6-8pm hours I really should be able to make it. See you all there!

The apron semester starts this week so we're back to the 6-8 time slot on Wednesdays. The last few weeks have seen the pool on earlier hours or closed entirely plus Christmas and New Years activities puts a damper on people's participation.

The pool sessions are generally informal. Members show up to practice their roll, adjust their boats, and to help others.

There are some club members who attend who are interested in helping others with their roll or other paddling techniques/questions. These volunteers aren't formalized so some weeks there will be three or five of them and other weeks there may be none.

It seems like people have success by posting to threads like this and letting others know what kind of help they are looking for in advance of the day they plan on attending.

Good luck and I'll see you there tonight!

PS - I believe Wednesday nights have a better chance of finding someone to work with because Saturdays are play outside days :)

Thanks for directing me to the details.

We will be there tonight and hope to meet some of you. I am most interested in having someone else work with Gina a bit. She is very excited about learning and I want to get her out in the moving water soon, but not until she has a little pool time and knowledge. I think it is best for someone else to help her at this first step and I be supportive and reinforce what she learns.

I need to remember things and regain comfort, plus I am sure I have no roll except the one that has developed around my middle lately. :-) I am looking forward to meeting some of you.
