Dragover (Ouachita) question?
Dragover (Ouachita) question?
My Map shows this to be a 2.9 mile section that almost circles back to the start point, is it possible to walk back easily to the put in/ starting point , or does posted land prevent a straight hike back to my truck?
Re: Dragover (Ouachita) question?
Yes. Very easy 0.3 mile walk on a USFS road. All marked with signs.

There was a trail along the river also. Maybe that is now posted as private property. I have walked the shuttle many times.
Current level of 2,6 feet is a fine level for floating at dragover. I found the float ok down to about 2.2 feet. After that it gets very bony in areas. I have actually run it down to 1.8 feet; not recommended.

Bird dog,
You can walk the road back, or the trail, it's all national forest property. I recommend you try the trail sometime, it has superb views of the river and countryside from a bluff along the river. If you leave the take-out, walk back up the road about a hundred yards then look carefully to your left and you will see where the trail takes off up the hill away from the road. It can be easy to miss, but there are some old timbers imbedded in the bank of the road ditch that form the first few steps of the trail. When you get to the top of the hill, you can turn left off of the trail for a few paces and it leads to a nice spot along the bluff to sit or take pictures. This particular place used to have a nice bench and a few sections of scenic wooden fence, I wouldn't mind seeing them both replaced someday. When you return to the main trail and continue, it bobs up a down a little, but then heads down hill right into the camp near the restroom.
Enjoy
Best Regards
