Razorback Red Octane 91

Post by magicmike » Tue Jun 18, 2013 3:24 pm

Wow just picked her up from FedEx. "Boy she's a 'bute Clark!" Anybody got foam shaping skills? I could probably use some advice. Can't wait to get her out!

Paul is your man I believe.

Congrats on the new boat! What kind of beer do you like so I can pre-purchase my test ride ticket? :)

Do it yourself. Get you a couple of different sized round wood rasps to remove any foam that you need to fit the factory saddle to your specs.

Easy enough to do because you're only removing small amounts. Go slow and constantly check the fit. Congrats on the boat.

Roger- Thanks. I got a Sureform from Lowes . The fit seems pretty close, but I'll whittle away slowly.

ARe you bringing her to boatball tomorrow? Know that you are outfitting a pump system and I just got all the misc electronics to get mine hooked up. Would like to see what you have done.

Kru- I hope to make it to Westfork tomorrow. After sitting in the boat with airbags, there's not much room for water. May not need a pump. -M-

Depending on what you run, you might want to install a pump. Probably can cut a section out below the saddle.

Sometimes, you just can't get out and dump the boat. And a full boat is not good in that stuff.

Where are the flow tubes located in the bottom of the saddle? Would think you have two. I cut my space between the two in mine. The pump acts as a pillar to support the saddle. The Tsunami pumps are small enough now that you will minimize that opening size.

I've made a slit in the front of the saddle and strapped an Otter box with my battery in it. I have a toggle switch installed on the end sticking up.

Sitting midway down in the Esses on the Tot with a boatload of water, it was really nice to hit the switch for about 20 seconds and then complete the run with an empty boat.

Roger- so do you have a thruhull fitting or do you go over the gunnel? Ilike the clean look of thruhull

Mike, if you like the clean look of the thru-hull, then go that route. If I remember right, Roger goes over the gunnel in his Option and has a thru-hull in his Probe.

BTW, I just got done paddling the Prodigy you sold Aron for his son. I think it will be the perfect boat for him.

Mike, when I find the 1 1/4" thru-hull to fit the Attwood pump, I'm putting one in like I have in the Probe. Looks better and is out of the way (never know what may snag on some overhanging limbs, etc.).

Hey Mike, glad it's working for you! The new saddles have a lot more material than the old saddles. I just traded some info with Jeremy about it on Facebook yesterday. If you haven't done it alreayd, I would take material out of each side of the saddle right where it angles up to the bulkhead. Make some room for your thighs without cutting off the bloodflow!

It sounds like you've pretty much got it sorted out, but if you want help I'd be glad to. We are packing to tonight to drive to Little Rock, and it sounds like you'll be at boatball anyway. I am still a probable for the hometown throwdown at Rockport on Saturday, and will be back in F'ville on Sunday.

Thanks,
Paul

p.s. I can show you what to buy at Lowe's for a cheap through-hull fitting. Less than $10-15 including the tube. It's about the same result as this:

Shep- Yea I could use some help. I know you're a busy man so I didn't want to ask, but I'll wait till Sunday to start really taking out chunks of foam. Can't make it to httd but holler when you get home and let's get together and do some whittling.thanks. I already ordered a thruhull from boat-tec it should be here by then. -M-

Wow! Just got back from first test drive, what a boat! I couldn't wait, so I spent all day yesterday getting her outfitted. The last thing was 1 inch hose from Lowes( thanks Shep! ) It took me 10 minutes with the garden hose to fill it to the top of the saddle and about 90 seconds for the pump to dump it out the back. On the water she tracked surprising well for the length, with basic forward stroke and 'lil stern prys with a few cross forwards thrown in for effect. Turns on a dime. And freaky johnboat stable! More so than my Probe 14. I can't wait to get it on moving water! I am definitely going to the SWRC July 21+22, so anyone wants to test drive I'll see you there. -M-
