ARKANSAS NATURAL RESOURCES COMMISSION ANNOUNCES PUBLIC MEETINGS TO DISCUSS WATER PLAN UPDATE ISSUES
Posted November 1, 2012
Author: Walter G. Wright
As noted in previous blog posts, the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission (“ANRC”) is undertaking an extensive effort to assess potential revisions to the Arkansas Water Plan. The Arkansas Water Plan is a document mandated by statute that the agency created to guide the state in its conservation and management of water resources.
Arkansas statutory authorities also require that the Arkansas Water Plan be periodically updated. This is the first effort in many years. (more than 20)
The ANRC noted in a recently issued news release that meetings will be held in:
November 13
Fayetteville, AR
University of Arkansas
Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena
1335 West Knapp
6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
November 15
Jonesboro, AR
Arkansas State University
Convocation Center
217 Olympic Drive
6:30 – 8:00 p.m.
November 27
Little Rock, AR
Arkansas Department of Health Auditorium
4815 West Markham Street
6:30 -8:00 p.m.
November 29
El Dorado, AR
Conference Center
311 South West Avenue
6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Anyone with even an indirect interest in the use and management of water resources in the state would be well advised to both track and participate in this process.

This plan will be broad and inclusve. If we want to have a say the next time a community goes out to dam one of our creeks, we need to have input on this plan. Attend one of these meetings and make sure that they know how important our lakes and streams are to you and that recreational interests are important also! Thanks in advance for participating in the process.

It was great to see so many of you at the meeting last night, this is just the beginning of what will be a long and interesting process! It is really important that we maintain our involvement and I was really excited to see so many of our NW chapter folks show up last night! I'd challenge our other chapters to "get out the vote" and be sure that the upcoming meetings on your areas are well attended by folks who represent paddlers and healthy waterways!!!

Re: AR State Water Plan Mtgs - Next Nov 27, Little Rock
I will be at the Little Rock meeting tonight starting at 6:30. Our central chapter meeting is at 7:30, but if you can, please come to the first part of the water plan meeting so we can have a show of support for this process. We want the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission to see that the paddling community is invested in the water plan.
See you at 6:30 at the state Health Department offices - the auditorium is on the SW side facing Monroe St.
