I need some coaching on the new msg board setup

Post by okieboater » Sat Jun 30, 2012 5:50 pm

I am not sure if it is my setup (windows 7, firefox both up to date) or maybe the security addons I have in firefox.

Or I have not found the right display options for the new setup.

Here is my problem. Under the old release, I would read a msg or could hit a button to indicate I had read all say General Discussion threads. As people posted when I went back to the section the next time say General Discussion, Threads that had been updated or added to would show in time sequence making it easy for me to read them.

Which meant, it was easy for me to read current threads and especially those that had been updated since I last read them.

with the new release I am getting hundreds of threads each time I load the message board. If I try to limit option to active entries, I still get a bunch of stuff whether I have read it or not.

Probably just me but this setup for me at least has made the message board a bunch less user friendly for me, even looking at the for sale section is a pain.

Help, is it just me or do I need some coaching on setting up the new release for ease of reading.

I'm running Windows XP with Firefox and it works fine for me. If I read a topic or "mark topics read" I only see new posts when I subsequently log in.

Thanks, it must be me or my setup

That is what I needed to know -- thanks - I will recheck my setup

Dave Reid.... I have the same problem..... in my case I suspect it is color difference in the buttons that my color blind eyes do not see.

Maybe Regud or some other savvy IT person can explain how a message board knows when you've read a message. Is it a cookies thing? Since there's no paddling we might as well learn something about computers...

Definitively something about cookies.. Brad.. aka Owl. My boat is all ready for a trail trip. Picked up this super ez from Ft Smith at the end of April and still have not had the need or possibility to give it a try.

Just did not appreciate 2011 enough. PIlar section of the Rio Grande in July and then Clear Creek Park in Golden at the end of Sept. Pilar had lots of water the first in Nov 2011!

That is what you get when you move to a semi-desert

Yup, Max I was out there in the Taos area in mid May this year.

Normally we do laps on Pilar and it is a roadside hoot. Last year and this year it was super low. Lower Box too low to run. This year we did get lucky on Chama. They did an unscheduled release from El Vado in week and we had plenty of Rio Chama water for a three day (we extend our stay to one extra day on this little jewel of a run) Rio Chama run. By the way, we found another neat place to eat in Dixon NM, just a few miles down from Pilar takeout on left maybe a mile east of the main highway. Only place in town just past the Co oP on left.

Sure hope next year is more water out there and here as well.

On the message board, I am homing in on cookies as my main issue. Me and Firefox latest release are not getting along saving cookies as well as we have previously.

Rio Chama has been running pretty steady... Flows later in the summer/early fall are common for the CHama. I just figured they were releasing to make up down stream flow that the Rio Grande is not providing.

I still have hope for Pilar run this summer... NM is starting to get some Monsoon flow, so there is a chance for a brief flood event. If it would stay up for a couple days I am close enough to run out for a overnite/2 day paddle.

Thanks for the advice on the place in Dixon.... I think I went right by it last summer.
