Log of interest

Ok I don't want to get into any infringement of ownership but I have come across a nice log with a hole through the middle, my question is-- is there anything special done to the log before putting on the fire? I was totally blown away by the "log of interest". I'm hosting a float trip for my church youth and would like to wow them. By the way my tent was within spitting distance of this years ww school. Thanks Dwayne

It helps to make sure the bottom is flat so that the "log of interest" will stand on end. Then cut a couple of "V" shaped notches in the bottom to allow air to enter. Keep the other end jagged for more Interest!

Shorter is easier to manage and doesn't have the same potential for falling on someone after it has burned for a while!

Might take a couple of pieces of copper tubing and enclose them in some old garden hose if you've got some laying around. A couple of two-inch pieces of this combination of materials tossed into the fire makes for some interesting colored flames!

Not environmentally friendly, but........ 8)

Know if you want to get real creative, you can use a variety of household supplies (borax, salt [sodium chloride], epsom salts, etc.) to pre-treat pine cones, small logs or large chips of wood, or saw dust to achieve a variety of flame color.

Takes a little time and work, but sounds like what you are looking for without the big boom. Before doing this,

with a crew, you might want to get some experience!!!

Not sure about the language in that video since it was a party!

Thanks for the information. We will have fun without the cooking oil, Coleman lighter fluid, aerosol cans. The next one I do will probably have a little more excitement

A frozen can of bacon grease lowered on a wire can provide some interesting sparkles and fireflyes as it melts and boils over, and a flash if you can inject water into it as it boils for a flash. Smells good too. And is non explosive. Ask Tim Burroughs. He has seen it a few times and allowed it near by his house at the last two Halloween Bon-fires.
