Re: UALR POOL SESSION 5-29
Joe,
I have someone on Facebook who asked about bringing his single rowing scull for flip testing. I don't know if there are rules regarding the type of boats.
My other concern is that now that it's summer there are a lot more rec swimmers (aka kids) that are using the pool and a diving class. I'm afraid his boat might take up too much room disturbing the swimmers and divers.

My first thought was, "cool, I want to be there!"
But after thinking about it some more, I think your concerns are very on target.
As I understand it, we have an agreement with UALR that ACC members can use the pool for whitewater roll practice for kayaks and canoes. Conditions include clean boats, obey all lifeguard instructions, persons should be dues-paying ACC members, share boats and experience with other UALR users that are interested, get out before closing time, etc.
I don't think we have any agreement for other uses. This is not an "open swim time" for ACC members, we can't hold cardboard boat races, etc.
So the real answer is, WE can't answer. If we accidentally violate UALR's "understanding" of permitted uses, we could damage our relationship with UALR and risk losing access to the pool.
I really appreciate the person asking the question, but they need to get permission from UALR, not from the ACC. If they are an ACC member, then that could be part of the conversation and may help "grease the skids" for them. Joe T would know who the current UALR contact person is.
One alternative would be to just go hit the pools at Rockport; that's only 45 minutes away and has a lot more working room for a long boat. Water temperatures are now completely comfortable for swimming, it is not winter anymore! The boat ramp at Pinnacle Mountain State Park is another good option to consider; the water quality there is a lot better than most people expect.

Re: UALR POOL SESSION 5-30
Since I had to edit my date, as apparently I have no idea what day it is...(Thanks Casey!)..I will go ahead and chime in.
The idea of bringing a raft is def. a fun one, as Cowper said...however...flip testing it is more for an outdoor venue. I am pretty sure Tom would veto it immediately, despite the good intent behind the idea. We have pushed the envelope so to speak with touring kayaks and even Mike Stanleys inflatable..but that's about as big a craft as we mess with. The set up and take down time wouldn't really be condusive for it either...I wouldn't think anyway...but I could be wrong. You might be able to inflate, flip a few times, and deflate in that two hour time frame.
So as cool as that would be, I'm gonna have to say it's probably not a good idea overall. Tom Genz is the contact/aquatics director, and I've known Tom for years now. He is a very fair guy, but I'm betting dollars to pesos he would say no chance.
Thanks for asking however! Sorry about the previous lapse in date..the new baby is wearing me out..I'm lucky I know who I am, and where I live...much less what day it is.

Thanks for your response, Cowper. I didn't know our exact agreement with UALR, You make some good points and thanks for the alternatives. I figured it wasn't a good idea, but thought I'd check anyhow.
