Looking for suggestions on campground (pop-up camper) and section of Lake to paddle in March. Will be bringing my granddaughter for spring break. She is still a novice paddler, so not sure she is skilled enough for river yet.

Diane,
Two of the campgrounds I have liked are Thompkins Bend and Twin Creeks, both Corps. developed sites with water and electricity if you like. These two campgrounds are on the Southwestern end of the lake.
Beverly Buys introduced us to these places and several others over the years and I really consider her one of the authorities on Lake Ouachita. Might PM her if you have specific questions.
Best Regards
Jim

I love the state park campground. It is on a penninsula and every campspot has water access. You park very close and there are bathrooms and showers within walking distance. Ask for the t1-12 spots.

Diane,
I figured you might like the State Park campground ( as Jim mentioned) or the various Corps. campgrounds for their services such as water, electricity supply, paved roads, relative security, and so fourth. However I really like the Western and Northwestern parts of the lake for the most coves and creek/river inlets to paddle because they are the most interesting to me, and maybe the most kayak-friendly considering how more sheltered they can be and how quickly wind can change paddling conditions on much of the lake for canoes and kayaks.
My favorite campground is Buckville, then Little & Big Fir campgrounds, and Irons Fork campground are also favorites. These are all on the Western end or North side of the lake and may be good to consider for a day trip however they have less to no services and are pretty remote if that should be a consideration.
Best Regards

Re: Lake Ouachita
I got a message from the corps the other day saying the parks will not be opening up until a week later this year. Check the status on reserveusa. My opinion on paddling would be the best on the northwest side of the lake

Arkansas state parks are well funded compared to the CofE. The amenities will be nicer.
If you want a more primitive paddling experience then Buckville is the place to be.
