Any word on how he is doing after his back surgery yesterday?

I have survived!

As the surgeon warned, this second surgery on the same disc left me a lot more sore than the first in 2009, which was basically painless. Jamie and I spent the night at the Baptist hospital here in Little Rock. Yes, I'm a big baby and asked Jamie to stay. I needed help to get around and there's nothing like having a personal attendant. Jamie is such a dear to do that, bringing me ice, pillows, and anything I whined for. She went home and put the cats up for the night, too, before returning. When she spent a couple of days in the hospital a few years ago, she insisted that I go home at night; I won't do that again. Pampering is definitely the way to go.

We got home about 10:30 this morning after gettin very little sleep through last night. She's taking a nap right now and I will be shortly. The verdict is still out on the success of the operation since my leg pain is still there at this point. I think the surgeon told Jamie that it will improve with time. The previous surgery brought instantaneous relief to my leg as well as not making me sore. Scar tissue is what makes the difference in the two operations; a lot of hard white tissue forms at the operation site, requiring more cutting and digging during the next surgery. The muscles that are cut away from the backbone are left to grow back on their own, hence the chunk of scar tissue in the area.

I'm not taking any pain medication now, so you can get an idea of the speed of recovery. Now what am I going to do with a bottle of 100 Oxycodone tablets? Hmmmm?

My two months of doing very little start now. OKAY RAIN, YOU CAN START!!!

Glad to hear of the success...at least so far.

What to do about the un-needed meds, I can't help. But you might try first changing your handle to Captain Oxycodone.

Get well soon! I had back surgery in 1979 and 1981 and my best advice to you is to religiously do the excersizes that they tell you to do (I did not after the first surgery and I am sure that contributed to the second). Our best to you and we hope you get back out soon.

When I was down due to hernia surgery, I have a distinct memory of DeBo packing the boats and heading to the Buffalo with the girls, leaving a few things within reach of the bed I could barely get out of.

(Oh well, I probably deserved it.)
