EAGLE FLOAT : TRIP REPORT

What an awesome day on the water! You could never expect to have such a beautiful day on the 22nd day of January. Mid 40's, sun shining, river risen just enough to not portage, and snow on the mountains.

With a group of about 14 canoeist's and kayakers, we left OMTC only 20 or so minutes behind schedule with a vague idea of the final logistics and a "we'll make it work" mentality. After finally reaching the put-in and seeing half of the original crew there, with the knowledge that I was the last in the group at that point, the conclusion was reached that we had lost a few folks. A few phone calls were made and it was determined that the rest of the crew was at another put in just slightly upstream. I decided to go upstream and locate the rest of the crew and reorganize/regroup. After most everyone was reunited with their boat (A few boats were towed downstream to their respective owner), we ran shuttle and the boats upstream were floated/towed down to the second put in.

Everyone was reorganized/regrouped again.

One small rapid at the beginning was a nice way to start the float off with a smile on everyone's face. The water clarity was amazing, and moving at approximately 2 mph. We stopped on a gravel bar about half way to stretch our legs and have a bite to eat. As we continued down river we saw several ducks including a few mallards, and the most beautiful bald eagle you have ever seen

Having the OMTC Land Rover and trailer out there proved very helpful in getting all the boats loaded and ready to go in no time.

Overall, great trip, beautiful weather, beautiful scenery, great people! Could have probably communicated a little better, but confusion is what makes this sport so great!

Post and let me know how often we should get a trip like the Eagle Float organized. Once a month? Twice a month? Once a year?

We should definitely try for once a month, weather and water permitting. Also anybody who would like to see pics can check out OMTC's facebook page. Anyone who attended and would like pictures of the trip can send me their email address and I'd be happy to send them to you.

Thanks to all involved for facilitating a great day!

I especially want to thank everyone from Ozark Mountain Trading Company for letting us use them as a rendezvous point, providing shuttles, doughnuts, juice and coffee as well as the opportunity to try new boats from their large demo fleet! You guys are great, Thanks!!

As for the trip, it was a cool but sunny day and wind was at a minimum. I can't swear to having seen any eagles, but there were plenty of great blue herons and kingfishers..

Anyway, thanks again to all. Let's do something similar next month!

It would be cool to do one once a month on different rivers depending on the water. It would be nice to hit Illinois, Kings, War Eagle, White, Buffalo, and Mulberry. This is my Dos Peso's

Anytime the weather permits a float trip in January is a great time.

Very special thanks to the organizers and OMTC for providing rendezvous, shuttle, boats and warm hospitality!

Sounds like a good trip. Work conflicts kept me away this time. Would like to try next month. Lets pick a date at the chapter meeting.

Generation schedule shows that last Sat was a 9 and 10 am release to produce 112 MW. Capacity is 128 MW @ 8800 cfs. That means they were running at ~7700 cfs.

I like Victor's idea but at the very least just getting out.

I liked the push at 12pm from the release. I would love to catch the release earlier and see how pushy it gets. I think I'll probably try to catch it next Saturday.

If it's good, it would make for an earlier put-in but perhaps a longer float.

And I'll boof some more rocks. Or crash and burn against them. Either way, it gives me off side practice.

Great Trip,

Had a blast and really enjoyed the op to get out in the middle of winter. The folks at Ozark Mountain Trading Co. were great.

Sorry for the delay on the pics,
