Help protect the Yampa River - Colorado

Post by Michele Jackson » Fri Oct 01, 2010 6:25 am

This was posted on AW's Facebook page so I thought I'd pass it along. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to paddle the Yampa know what a gem it is.

--------------------------

Speak up for protection of the Yampa RIver! Very important opportunity for paddlers to support the Bureau of Land Management's finding that three segments of the river are suitable for Wild and Scenic designation. See link below.

Thank you for passing that on. Been 36 years since I have been there, but it still holds fond and vivid memories for me. Always thought it should have been included in the list when they were deciding which rivers should get W&S status. Proves that we need to speak up to get it that it has taken this long.

Eric is very correct in stating this watershed needs protection.

I have been blessed to run the Yampa and Lodore runs into Split Mountain a number of times over the past few years.

These are classic western multi day floats. Ideal rivers to get into western river running on "desert" rivers.

Yampa is one of the more scenic canyon runs any where. Camping at Warm Springs is a real treat. Get up the hill from the river and jaw dropping vista are there for the looking.

Lodore is a continuous set of fun rapids and good scenery and a different feel than Yampa but still a classic.

When the Yampa and Lodore runs come together to run down thru Split Mountain, at the good levels this is true western big water fun runs.

These runs are fun at all levels.

These floats deserve all the help users of this message board can give. Please send in your comments as well as your Mulberry River comments. Just takes a few minutes and we owe it to future river runners.
