I'm posting this for Pam Hendrick, Founder of Paddle for the Cure. Also, I'm posting for the Arkansas Boathouse Club, as noted below:)
The 8th Annual Paddle for the Cure, a fun paddle for kayaks and canoes, will take place on Sat., Oct 16th. The PFTC group will launch at 7:00 AM from the Burns Park boat ramp in order to arrive at the Broadway Bridge at approx 8 AM as the runners start the Race For The Cure. Then we bob around under the bridges cheering on the runners above. Take-out is at the I-30 boat ramp (just down-stream) or paddle back... whew!
At the take-out ramp, the Arkansas Boathouse Club will be hosting a Brunch/Open House for Paddlers, Racers, Coast-Guard, Sheriff's Patrol & all our various friends and supporters, as the ABC has done the last several years. Plan to stop by... You'll be welcome! And, you need not be an experienced paddler to participate in the Brunch... (PM Crane for info)
This Paddle for the Cure is a "rogue event", non-sanctioned by Susan G. Komen because we are on the water. Pam encourages everyone to donate by registering as if you were participating in the Race for the Cure at http://www.komenarkansas.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, tape your number to your boat and wear your t-shirt, but paddle with us instead of walking or running!! Dress crazy, wear pink, paint your boat pink, espress yourself! This is for men and women who are experienced paddlers.
NOTE: Experienced paddlers only, at your own risk.
Bring your own boat and PFD! PFDs must be worn at all times!
Need volunteers to shuttle! See you on the Arkansas River!

Pam, I love this idea! I'll be there! I was planning on doing the race but I'd rather be in my kayak! Thanks for the info!

We're on for the ABC Brunch tomorrow morning starting about 7:30 a.m.! Feel free to stop by the Arkansas Boathouse Club's facility just under the Interstate Bridge on the NLR side at the launching ramp. Big parking lot, good food, interesting stuff going on to support the Race for the Cure!! Crane

Thank you! i guess I should have made a report... We had about 20 paddlers participate in the Paddle for the Cure last weekend. In addition, the Arkansas Boathouse Club put an 8-woman (plus a female coxwain)crew on the river rowing the Pretty Pink shell painted specifically for that duty two years ago. Sadly, the past two RFTC's the water was too high for it to safely be on the river. This year, it was really special!! In summary, the paddlers were great, the crew rowed in style, and the food was plentiful (and good, too!). About 35 river-people and friends enjoyed a really fine morning on the river for a great cause! Thanks to all!!
