Directions from Fort Smith to Buffalo Point

What would be the best route to take from Fort Smith to Buffalo Point? Using my GPS map I can map routes all through but would like to know opinions on the best, shortest, fastest, route. Even though the mileage is longer it almost looks like going I-540 to 412 would be a quicker route but going through the back woods is the shortest. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I live in Ft. Smith and I always go over to the middle Buffalo via Clarksville on I-40, take 21/292/123 to Pelsor, 16/377/74 through Ben Hur, Witts Springs, Snowball, etc. to Hwy 65. then down to Marshall and across on 27 & 14 to Buffalo Point because I love the drive and scenery. I think the 540/412 way is just boring. YMMV.

I think the quikest route would be I-40 to Conway, then north on 65 to Marshall.

Thanks people for the input. I am new to Fort Smith and used to go From Joplin, Mo to Hwy 65 in Springfield and head south. Leaving at 0600 and needing to be there by 0900 will be pushing it so the quickest route this time would be best. I will try the Conway to Marshall route. For some reason I keep going back to Marshall through my life. I played on the square there as a child some 45 to 50 years ago.

if you are gonna do that... look at turning onto hwy 9 @ Morrilton which will bring you to hwy 65 just south of Clinton. This chops off miles.. but it is not 4 lanes. If you are a 80 on the istate and 70 on the 4 lane driver... ymmv (your mileage may vary)
