any ideas? Has a hole ripped in the aluminium about 2 or 4 inches wide and maybe a foot long. Thought perhaps if I could sandwich something over and under it??

The price was right... dude said, "ain't no good, take it if ya want it." Hoped someone here would have an idea.

Clif, I repaired a hole in with with shoe goo and cap to a 35mm film cannister. Might consider JB weld in some application.

Roger's right on the money with the J B Weld idea. Use a couple of PBR cans (or whatever flavor matches the top) for the patch and the locals will think you're a hero

I like your sandwich idea. I'd be tempted to try some aluminum flashing (check local hardware or building supply) and JB weld followed by some silicon caulk between the sandwich. Pop rivets would be easy to apply to hold it all together. Partly depends on what you're willing to live with (or your wife or kids are willing to ride in . . .) as a finished product.

I am getting some print plates from a shop I used to work at, which are just sheets about 7 or 8 mil thick I think. About 17 x 22 in size. Plan for this is to slip it on for some of those camp trips so we can just crash in the back. It will be off most of the time. So pretty aint important. The truck is a 2500HD so the top, where the patch will be, is waaay up there anyhow.

Another friend suggested some rivets... never worked with those. Hafta google that. Thanks for the ideas guys.

Rivets will require you to put some sort of gasket between the outer layer of material (whatever you use) and the shell itself to keep the rain out.

Clear hot melt adhesive would probably work but not sure if you can get a 100% seal.

If you use adhesive to bond the patch on first, seal is in place already. Then, maybe a few rivets to re-inforce.
