How quickly will Dragover drop off?

Post by KimL » Thu Sep 17, 2009 8:47 pm

Since I have to be back Saturday by 3:00 for the DO Cookoff, Roger suggested that I look to Dragover instead of the Caddo for Saturday river paddling. Great idea, but then we saw it's reading over 19 feet. How quickly will it drop off? Any chance Saturday will be a go?

I think Dragover will be high for awhile.....it;s still raining at my house at it's headwaters...and there is alot of water...I don;t think it is very fun over about 5 ft......3.8 to 4.2 is what I like.....it was 4.6 and coming up a few days ago after work my last trip...came up about 18ft!!!! The highest I have ran it is 9ft.....
If you are that close keep your eye on Big Creek Ok. 270west out of Mena...if the Black Fork Ok gauge says 8 or more it is quite fun, see my trip report I just posted...it takes an hour to get from Dragover to Big Creek, maybe a bit more....

Thanks for the info! I couldn't get to OK and back in time to do my duty at the cookoff.

Below is a graph of USGS historical information from earlier this year. Judging from it and the fact that the Mt. Ida gauge is higher now than the level shown on the graph I'd predict that Dragover would not be below the 6.5' defined as "high" on the Ozark Creek Information Summary by Saturday.

You can ask Jim Krueger about the upper caddo but the level looks good for it around Glenwood. We usually do the swinging bridge to Glenwood. The level is looking great for it. Just hope the rain stays away Saturday and Sunday (you didn't hear me say rain stay away).

Karla, I'd love to do the Caddo, but the official 'Vous trip is an afternoon trip, and I have to be back at Couchdale by a little after 3:00 for the Cookoff. That's why we were looking at Dragover. Roger said it would be shorter, closer, etc. Oh, well!

Kim,

With no more rain, I would bet it would be around 4-5' on Saturday.

Thanks, Renee. I think I'm waiting and coming in tomorrow. Too much to do for work today.
