Galla

Galla Creek was rompin' today. Multiple runs made today, one during the peak of the crest offered some big pushy water.

A couple of swims today due to tangles with downed wood. There is a fair amount of wood in there and some of it in some not so good places.

ya make that 3 swims do to wood I got up close and personal with one of those logs just a class 2+ rapid but one of those logs you just dont see the water was going over the log it made it look like a boof I was right behind joe seen him back ender and then disappear little did i know he was being sucked under a log it was too late i was already committed to running the same line gave a stroke backender felt the bottom on my back and the new fullface i have was pressed firm against the cockpit of my boat reached up and felt the log i could feel the water surge and the log give a little each time so i abandoned my paddle and started to push on the log with both hands and could tell i was makin progress it let me through but raked me over the coals real good joe was able to hand roll i was not i swam like a carp i had enough of that crap mad props to joe for stickin with it

I hadn't been scared on a creek in quite a while and everything was going fairly fun until that happened and it scared me because when the melt down happened we had chaos all at once. While you were upside, and Joe was upside down James gets upside down too after a serious hit on his bow.

On the plus side everyone who was in trouble also took care of themselves and self rescued and the rest of the group reacted quickly to collect gear and get folks on the bank.

For those who've run Galla you know the one consequential drop is called Boof Lube. This shot is of James Robison setting up the drop.



Now in this shot look close in the hole and you can see a paddle sticking up and the top of a helmet. That's James too.



Now here's the interesting part. These shots are from our second run when the creek had dropped by about a foot and a half! All the rocks in the visible part of these photos were ALL underwater.

when those dudes are under water, turtle hole down stream is freaking rocking. you mush through all the rapids and end up fighting holes you never knew existed. hopefully the wood gets washed out soon. did anyone hit up the slide today?

No chance at all without more direct rain on it. The watershed for Galla is really small and the geology of the whole thing sits on bedrock so it drains itself really fast. I'd venture to say that it would be so low that you couldn't even get down it today.
