Buffy/white river opinions..

Post by drparrothead » Thu Jul 16, 2009 9:33 am

Thinking about a multi-day trip...has anyone ever done, say hwy 65 bridge (or hwy 14) to Calico Rock or similar? Just thinking this might make a decent trip. Any thoughts?

I have been wanting to do that for years. Hwy 14 on the Buffalo to Hwy 14 on the White is a 77 mile float with a 37 mile shuttle.
If you go now, Bull Shoals and Norfork lakes are still in the Flood Control Pool. Consequently, they are releasing excess water and you should have very cold, fast moving water for the White portion of the trip. The Buffalo may be another story.
Here is a possible itinerary:
6 miles - Hwy 14 to Bice Bend
14 miles - Bice Bend to Cold Springs
12 miles - Cold Springs to White River
18 miles - White to Red's
18 miles - Red's to Boswell
9 miles - Boswell to Allison
77 miles Total

Richard, that's perfect. What a nice trip. I may have my wife dump me off for a solo run and just do it over three days in one of my kayaks instead of the canoe, just to make better time. I don't mind 25 miles a day or so when I'm alone and paddling a yak. Then, I'll repeat with the wife and kids and take our time. If anyone's up for trying to squeeze such a trip into a two nighter, let me know. It's true, I sometimes do silly stuff just to prove I still can :)
