Another great Rec School - thank you volunteers!!
We had a wonderful time on the Spring River this past weekend with Rec School. The instructors and other staff -- all volunteers -- did a fantastic job and worked themselves to death to make sure the students had a good experience, both on the water and driving shuttle.
If you see these people, please thank them for their dedication to the ACC and to helping introduce people to our much-loved sport and helping others improve their paddling skills.

as a rec school student, let me second that emotion!
I mean, vehicle shuttles, home cooked desserts, education and hospitality. We were far too spoiled. I can't say enough about what it meant to have the chance to attend such a great program and to have fun while doing it.

Liz,
Marlo and I thoroughly enjoyed the school also. Thank you, and the other instructors, and most certainly, the more unseen support volunteers who gave of their time! I'm indebted to you all. Thanks so much to each of you students who came and entrusted us all!
Best Regards

Gary, I and Minna showed up to paddle on Friday then planned to on Saturday and was more than happy to assist with registration and shuttling. I want to commend Liz again for a great job and all her hard work. I saw first hand just a part of how much work that was for her. I was glad we could help in some small way. I would have signed up earlier had I realized more help was needed. Glad we were there to help.
Thanks Mike Stanley for having Minna and I along to paddle and Gary was more than happy to help with backup on the river.

Re: Another great Rec School - thank you volunteers!!
OK, TEFKACS instructors, listen up:
Once again, I found Rec School to be one of the best kept secrets in the ACC. Sure, at good levels, the Mulberry has more challenging water. But the Mulberry can be fickle; she can hand you a wonderful level, or she can "skunk" you with too little or too much water. The Spring guarantees teachable moving water. Just like Canoe School, class assignments allow division into groups according to who wants just the basics, and who wants to be "pushed" a little more. But the smaller school size reduces burden on instructors by covering many topics in one large group meeting, and also minimizes practice time "cut short" by the need to move on down the river to free up the better places for the next class. And if it floats, we'll try to teach you to paddle it. (Long boats rule for attainments!) Bottom line, speaking as an instructor, I always have a blast! (I'm just glad they don't charge me for coming.)
Liz, Kim, and other "major" organizers: THANKS for everything you did to put this together! The extra work you did is what made it so easy for me to participate. Also, thanks to Karla + Gary for the loan of the Dagger Approaches; they were a great teaching platform for this school.
Now, if we can just figure out some revised wording for the "minor waiver" we have all parents sign... "we can not be responsible for the things your offspring may see or hear, but we promise to keep teaching no matter what..."
