Anybody got hiking info on Lake Wedington Trail. Don't need directions wanted to know about the trail itself. Is it scenic or pass it up and go somewhere else.
Re: hiking info
We live about 5 miles from the trailhead and walk the trail on a regular basis. The scenery is not spectacular like parts of the Highlands or Buffalo trail, but it is a nice walk through typical ozark scenery with several interesting features. The trail is well marked with blue blazes. You will walk through huge trees- both pine and hardwood. There are areas with huge numbers of dogwood trees that are great in the spring. There is a nice spring a few miles in. The trail takes you across fire tower road and into an area of nice bluffs. Lots of moss covered rocks and with the right combination of wet and cold there are some bluffs that have ice sheets and icycles forming on them. You can find anchors where climbers have practiced their skills along the bluff line. Crowding is not a problem. During the week you will seldom see another hiker. Several years ago ATV's were banned from the entire forest (they couldn't behave themselves) and it is a much quieter cleaner place because of it. We also enjoy bicycling on the forest roads since the ATV's were kicked out. I can give you info on where forest service roads cross the trail to break it up into short hikes. If I'm home might be able to help with a shuttle if you want to make a one-way hike. Hope this helps. If you have any questions, give me a call. 479 seven nine nine 6793 Cal
