I am wondering if it's navigable in the upper reaches around highway 2.
I know the salvinia is a huge problem in some parts of the lake. Have searched online some, and can't find much.

I can only make a suggestion on the very best way to find out:

DeBo and I have discovered that the search for good places, is almost as much fun as spending time in those places after you find them. In "bad" weather, we will use maps and our GPS's, and drive to potential access points. See if there is really a place to launch your boat, or only fences and "no trespassing" signs. Once you've identified an access point, your next step is to do some "in and out" paddling, to see if the area is one you want to spend more time in, before you try a "through" trip. You can't judge from the access alone; is that portage you see from the bridge the only one on the entire run, or is it just the first of dozens?

We discovered dozens of places worth paddling; and also found a few we will not likely visit again. I've put my boat in at a place that looked good, paddled 100 yards before running out of water, stashed the boat in the woods and spent the rest of the day hiking. But every day spent has been an "adventure" at some level and better than what I'm doing right now.
