Bayou Meto Canoe Trail

We had a successful day of scouting Bayou Meto near Jacksonville to help with plans for a canoe trail. We covered half of the two mile trail before time and a beaver dam stopped our progress. We paddled up from the future HWY 161 access and then paddled back out.

A faculty coordinator and three students from North Pulaski High headed up the recon as part of a future project. There were several canoe club members and a rep. from AR Game & Fish involved. Special thanks to Richard McFadden for providing the canoes.

I really enjoyed leisurely paddling through the bayou and it has sparked new motivation for me to do more flat water paddling.

Considering the ACC turnout, you would think this was a Conway project. Bayou Mato has real potential to become a very nice canoe trail.

There is a picture on the Arkansas Leader website. Chester Robinson, Julie Buratowski, Mike Byrum, Debbie Doss.
I could not find an article that went with the picture. (Dec 3)

Here is an article posted today (Dec 4) It appears to have been written before the activity on Tuesday.

I was deeply disappointed to miss this one because I had to work (insert weighting factors here), but I felt a little bit better after I learned that no damage was done to the tree. My saw is feeling neglected lately, and there is a special pleasure that goes with firing up the saw in any designated park.

I want to thank those ACC members that participated in this trip. It is a project worthy of our support plus it demonstrated to a lot of young folks in the Stream Team just how much fun you can have on the water paddling. I see new members in the near future.

Thanks Richard for the canoes!!

It's a shame they didn't make it above the beaver/debris dam. There is a good access/takeout point up the side channel on river left about 200 yards and they missed out on seeing the big tree up the main channel.

Cowper, when you get the chainsaw gased up give me a call, though I have my own work related issues until after the 11th.
