OT: Store closing

Post by gfitzge7 » Sun Nov 02, 2008 11:17 pm

Well folks as much as I like the outdoors and sometimes dislike my job I am sad to say that the Circuit City in Fayetteville is closing. Looks like it is job huntin time. We will be closed Tues. but will open Wed. with everything marked down and marked down each day until the store is empty. So if anyone needs any electronics come on in. This closing is def. the cause of many years of bad upperend management. What is sad is that many other companies are being faced with the same predicament and the average worker is the one to pay.

What time on Wens. do the doors open.
How big are the discounts?
Is the store going to remain open until sold out?

Thanks for the heads up....

They are keeping us in the dark, but as far as I know most stuff will start at 10 percent off and drop everyday until sold out and yes the store will stay open till everything is gone. Best deals will be on displays.

I wonder how much longer untill the rest of the stores start closing. I heard months ago they filed for re-organization, which could lead that way. Best buy is still doing well however. At least for the moment.

I'm really sorry to hear about the job situation. I think a lot of us are sitting on the fence post waiting to see which side we fall on.
So, since you stated they are having a sale ... do they have any Play Station 3's????
Again, sorry about the job situtation.

I would be willing to bet, just from working here, that the whole company is soon to follow if the upper end management do not change the way they operate. They pay the higher ups way too much for their job and do not use that money to improve locations and advertising. I mean here in Fay we are on the doorstep of Walmart and have some really powerful people in the area and we have told them this, but we always get the same response of "we appreciate your input." O well on to better things for me, but hope you all can benefit from this, I was told the prices would start at 10 percent off for most and 5 percent for computers. This discount will drop to 15, 20, etc. until the store is empty. After about a week it turns into a zoo sometimes. It is sad though nationwide 17 percent of their workforce, thousands of people fired. I have a friend here who has a kid, and is trying to go to school ruff time.

Did you realize that Dave Collins wrote about Circuit City being a GREAT company in his book, just a few years ago. Not many companies made it to the level of being "Great".
Terrible how quickly things can turn around, and the top guys still get great packages, especially if they leave ... then what is left crumbles and goes broke.
Good Luck in the market place. You do have some great companies up there, Wal-Mart, JB Hunt, Tyson, IO Metro, Pack Rat (I love that store!) and Flying Burrito (ok, my child loves that place!).
We may need to start a Canoe Club Members posting of jobs spot pretty soon, as several of us may be joining you.
Best Wishes,

I worked for Circuit City for over 7 years. I was the Store Manager/Director of the West Little Rock store for the last 4 years of my tenure (I left in 2001). They have been heading downhill for a long time. At one point they were the big boys but they took the marketers out of the leadership and replaced them with accountants. Nothing against accountants but they aren't the most creative group and as the company got passed by Best Buy they became very reactionary. Basically, instead of doing what they knew how to do and making adjustments to stay ahead of the market they began visibly following Best Buy. They cut out managers with experience (like me) to replace them with kids they could get at half pay. They got rid of commissioned salespeople (this was what set them apart from the others, knowledgeable salespeople with a stake in good customer service). I'm glad I got out when I did.

Sorry for your current predicament but now you have the opportunity to find something that can lead to career happiness. It took a few years of bouncing around for me before I found my current position with Arkansas State Parks where I intend to stay for a very long time. Sure the pay is lower but in the words of Joseph Conrad, "Follow Your Bliss."

I agree completely...been downhill for a while. They were basically running from pay check to pay check and the paycheck got cut in half with the economy and they could not do anything. Well.... I hope for my last couple of checks from them, that they have overdraft protection.

Update in deals,

whole store is 10 percent off or more, except for computers 5 percent...
most accessories are 15 percent off, dig cameras, etc are 10 percent off games are 5 percent

these prices will stay the same prob about a week then drop again
prices are set in stone they will not negotiate, or I myself would hook all of yal up.
...Well I guess theres nothing wrong with what you say, but don't sell me their can't be better ways..
