ATU Students/ Russellville Area folks...
Did you know there is now an ATU paddlers club?! I didnt...
But, I was just informed, they have access to the Tech pool every thursday night from 8 PM to 9:45 PM. Access is free for students/faculty/alumni and 20$ per semester for community members. These are roll sessions, so if someone is needing to learn, come on out, or just bring your playboat and get some flatwater action. Right now, they are having to pay 20$ a night to pay the lifeguards, so bring 2-3$ to pitch in, just in case...
Remember, Thursday night 8PM to 945PM, at the ATU pool in Hull.

Hi, This is Phil.
We just created this group as in, Fall 2008. So it's new.
And even if you don't have a boat, you can come out and try out.
Most of the members are kayakers.
Actually, only 3 of the members (including me) are open-boaters...

How many of ya are there that head out there? How does alumni get pool access? I know when I was a student I had to pay a fee and get a sticker on my id. Do you guys have a website or anything yet?

We don't have a website, yet. But if people want it, I can definitely create one.jclaudii wrote:How many of ya are there that head out there? How does alumni get pool access? I know when I was a student I had to pay a fee and get a sticker on my id. Do you guys have a website or anything yet?
And because we reserved the pool for the "private use", as long as you are with the group, no one is going to stop you.

Best access is to turn off of Arkansas right in front of Taco Bell. Shouldnt have to worry about a hang tag.

Re: ATU Students/ Russellville Area folks...
I wish you all the best of luck with the club, and the sessions! Thanks to some recreation major students and willing faculty at Henderson, I had my chance to learn the roll, after putting my fears on hold and paddling anyway for several years. A paddling club at the school never took off at the time, some 13 years ago or so but the class was just a great success. We started out with ten students, two student instructors and a faculty sponsor. Our class ran for a month, meeting three nights a week at two to three hours each session. My truck wreaked of chlorine from the wet gear for a while afterward but what fun, and I can't overstate the sense of accomplishment when I finally got it
After learning a consistent roll in the pool that Spring, The ACC just happened to offer a 'swift-water roll class' at The Ledge one day at the following Summer's Rendezvous. This couldn't have been a better opportunity for me and I wouldn't have done as well without the previous practice and support at the pool.
Good luck and have fun! :)
Best Regards
Jim Moose
