Lee Creek Cleanup Carpool from Fayetteville

Post by Half Ton » Fri Sep 05, 2008 8:23 am

Hey boater chicks and dudes,

Is anyone carpooling to Lee Creek for the Cleanup tomorrow ?

I have a person that would like to carpool, but doesn't want to leave @ 5:30 am with me tomorrow morning and stay 'til six. I don't blame them at all for not wanting a super long day, but I would like them to be involved and hope someone may want to give a ride.

I guess just post if so, or pm me. I have their contact info and will give it if asked. This could be a chance to get a new member in the club too...

so maybe a recruiter carpool ? why not right ?

Anyway just post if you want to help another person make it to the cleanup that prolly won't make it otherwise.

Thanks, Half Ton

Bob Cross from the Ozark Society has a fayetteville to Lee Creek Cleanup carpool organized for tomorrow morning if anyone needs a ride.

They are meeting at the Southgate Mall in Fayetteville. It is located on the corner of 71B and Hwy 16. They are leaving at 8 a.m. If you need or want a ride this would be the best way to go.

Thanks to Bob Cross and Alice Andrews of the Ozark Society for all of their help and support !

I might be interested in coming out to help with the clean up and float Saturday.

Question though: I am probably on the low end of an Intermediate paddler and have a tank of a kayak, Perception Aurora. Would this be too much for me?

Lee Creek Tomorrow should not be problem for you at all, as the almost to maybe class 3 section will be to low to float and has already been cleaned earlier in the week when it was floatable.

Fish said that a bunch of people were meeting at the 220 put in around 10:00 am. If you go with them you should not have a worry in the world as they are all fine boaters and willing to help anyone if ever in a pinch.

So, bring that Kayak. I don't think that Bob Cross's group is planning on floating so you may want to contact fish and them about getting a ride.

There is another thread about that on the board somewhere, but I can't remember what it's called. I will look again and refer you to it.

Lee will be floatable tomorrow, but it will be on the very low end of floatable - so it will be very mild. Maybe a class I+ or a II- at the most, if you have trouble just stand up

We'll be joing the RV Chapter, see ya'll there.

The river will be low but runnable tomorrow below Hwy 220, so by all means bring a boat. All class 2 at that level.

Thanks for the information!

Fish -
Would it be best to meet up at the 220 bridge @ 10? What is the best way to get there?

Do I need to bring any specific gear to aid in the cleanup?

Any idea how long the cleanup/float will take?

Wow, that was a lot of questions.

This map is it and the directions are below:

IF coming from Fayetteville Go to west fork exit and follow the Devils Den signs on hwy 170 to the park. Once in the park look for hwy 220 and take a right. It is paved then turns gravel, keep running straight until you come to the paved hwy 220 T and take a left you will see the 220 bridge (on the map called the silver bridge although it is now a concrete bridge), go over it and turn left.

You are there.

Does anyone know how "good" the gravel road is b/w the 220 bridge and Devil's Den? Would it be fine to take a regular car on it?

The road is in good shape, but It is best to drive a little slower due to some areas where there are some small exposed rocks.

There are no mud holes or boulders or otherwise sticky spots. Just bumpy in places. A honda civic or something comparable would do just fine.

If you're there first watch out for deer.
