Richard,
Rebecca and I had the priviledge of camping with you season before last at Rush when the lower river was so high. We were the couple with the brand new Bell Alaskan at the time. She can't make it this weekend, but I'm seriously considering coming solo for at least the day paddle. Would enjoy visiting with you again and meeting the other folks as well.

Doug, it will be good seeing you again. That was a great trip.
I am in Harrison and as soon as I get home tonight I will post a map.
It looks like we will have a nice group going. I will update that info as well.
Keep in mind the water is going to be low. There will be scraping in some places. Ten miles at this level is not going to be a quick trip.
If the river drops much (I don't expect that to happen), we may have to move the trip downriver. So watch for updates.

Awesome news on Pams Birthday! I'll bring the cake and we'll sing Happy Birthday real loud within the Bluffs of the Buffalo River......and I'll bring the large friendship rock also to remind us of the beginnings of these crusades. Look forward to seeing you all on the river; Definitely will be swimming on this trip

Re: BUFFALO RIVER - MAR 20-22 - Tyler Bend - UPDATE#3
I just came from Tyler Bend and talked to a couple who paddled Woolum to Tyler Bend on Wednesday. They were in Kayaks and it took them 7 hours to get from Woolum to Tyler Bend. The had to get out a couple of times. They said from Baker Ford to Tyler Bend was no problem. The water level had dropped into the low but floatable range which means we will be dragging. Sooooooooooooo. We really need to rethink this one.
Ken Smith is at Tyler Bend at Group site #1. He said we are welcome to join him Friday night. The group sites are on the right as you approach the damaged launch area. #1 is the first area. Each group site has water. There may not be a cost for camping but if there is it will be $3 per person.
Here is my suggestion.
Option 1: Baker Ford to Tyler Bend and camping at Arnold Bluff. We could do some exploring or just take it easy.
Option 2: Tyler Bend to Gilbert. We could do this as a day trip or camp on a gravel bar at Lane Bend. I think I would prefer daytripping.

Either one works for me. Put to a vote, I'd probably go with Tyler Bend to Gilbert just because the stretch between Tyler and Maumee is the least familiar to me.
I plan to be at Tyler Bend Friday evening.

Rodger and I discussed it and we agree with Doug. Tyler Bend to Gilbert it is. This section has some interesting geological features. Because of that, I have invited geologist John David McFarland to join us. This is very last minute and he is in the midst of moving so I don't know yet if he will be able to. In the event he can not, I may be able to cover some of the basics of what he would be showing us. Either way, I hope you will come away with a greater appreciation of the geology of the area.
Here is the plan:
Friday: Camp at Tyler Bend Group site #1. You will see two large white tents with blue rain flies. Thats us. They are already set up so if you get there first you will know you are in the right place.
Saturday: Day float from Tyler Bend to Gilbert. Be at Group site #1 at 10:30am to run shuttles.
After the float I would suggest checking out the visitor center and trails in the area.

Re: ***BUFFALO RIVER-MAR 20-22**Tyler Bend**-UPDATE#4
I and a friend might join you for the ride if we can find him a lifejacket and Karl, Carl, Karl, Carl will let me ride in his canoe (not that I intend to paddle him anywhere)
so my friend can paddle my kayak.
Karla, do you have any boats for sale?

Thank you all for the great hospitality. What a great bunch to camp and paddle with. I/we will be back soon!
Richard, thanks again for organizing these. Carl, thanks for the help with the confounded tent and thanks to Eric for helping out after my own unscheduled swim. Everyone was nice enough not point and laugh!
What a great time spent with great people.
