Yep. Keep in mind Presley and Meribeth are just whipersnappers. They had dads on hand to supervise, but did all the essential stuff on their own.

I am really pleased to hear we have a new generation of Dutch Oven cookers in our club.
Cooking in 'Black Pots' is part of our American heritage.
I just finished time up in Montana canoe tripping down the Missouri Breaks along the Lewis and Clark route.
We did a lot of information gathering on the history of the Lewis and Clark expedition. Their entire route is well covered with historical venues. Next to their rifles, their cast iron dutch ovens were the most prized tools they had for their journey. We also stopped at various pioneer historical venues along the Oregon Trail. Same feelings toward their dutch ovens.
Bottom line: Lets keep these young DO cookers involved. Dust Bowl Chapter will hold their annual DOG (aka Dutch Oven Gathering) in November. We usually have 20 or more DO's cooking. Come on over and cook with us!

Mr. Dave, when is this year's Dust Bowl DOG? A Central Chapter reconnaisance/good will mission may be in order.
You come too.

Tentative plans are for Sat November first at the Corp of Engineers AKA COE Park at Bluff Landing just outside Tulsa. More details as we get closer to the date. We have done this event for a number of years now and it is always a good time. Every one is invited.
This is a developed rec area along the river with river access, a pavilion we will use, pit toilets and camp sites. Earlier this year we did a intro to canoe ACA clinic at this park.
We do the cooking Sat morning, spread finished goodies out on the monster table and eat around 1 or 2 O'clock. Most will go home that afternoon but historically some will camp out, have a camp fire Sat evening and finish off left overs. Folks who don't cook usually bring their favorite treat to add to the DO goodies.
This is a gathering not a contest. Everyone brings and cooks their favorite dish or dishes. The chapter rents the pavilion, brings charcoal and we usually have a Charcoal Chief to heat up charcoal for the cookers. Camp sites are available thru the COE normal registration. We all share the finished products. Every one is there to have fun and coach others. One year we had a local Boy Scout group there as part of their merit badge learning. Historically Tulsa Camping and Canoe Club shares this event with us. We will have extra dutch ovens to lend out and plenty of DO Cookers to help those who want to learn about DO Technique.
As mentioned, more later as we firm up the event planning at our next Chapter meeting.

I'm sorry I missed the winning posole! That's the next DO dish I am going to undertake... soon! Congratulations to the winners, the cookers, and the young folk who stepped up to compete. The paddling community will be better for having y'all around!
