"General Disscusion" should be allowed here on "general disscusion" board unless it is offensive . There's a big difference in not liking what is being disscused and it being offensive . If one person can express their opinion here then so can everyone else . I don't have a whole lot to say on the message board very often but I have a BIG problem with someone expressing their opinion on here then telling me to keep mine to myself or talk about it somewhere else . Kinda reminds me of the old saying "do as I say , not as I do"

Since people are attempting to stifle others for discussing hypotheticals, how about factuals?

I was looking for info on whether the park was free forever or free for this summer and stumbled across the following...

See the screenshot for a FB post (Fisher Ford Road Bridge page) on June 3 from someone who says he helped rescue a boy at the park that had "gotten his leg wedged under" a rock and that they "were lucky to get him out".

See second screenshot from the City of Siloam Springs page where on June 7 a lady says that the other day "a kid got his foot stuck under a rock in the rapid.. It took 3 men about 8 minutes to get him out" and that those men had to keep the kids head above water. She says that a call was made to 911.

These events don't make the park evil and hopefully people will learn to treat the rapid with the respect that moving water and a natural environment deserves.

The city posted signs. The AFGC has other fish to fry and are not concerned about tubers. I don't really agree with some of the things going on at the park, no matter what I think about it I still lend a hand where I see fit. Whether it's a struggling swimmer or a superficial wound. Most issues would be solve quickly if parents would watch their kids instead of sit in the car or be dropped of like it is a daycare. Just do what you think is right.

Thanks for posting that Bryan. As someone who doesn't do Facebook, I would not have known about the foot entrapment incidents. I feel like a mother hen when I'm there, constantly watching those kids because so many of their parents are not.

ON a positive note. Last night [6/11] I was at the River Park and a large group [6-8] of boys had 'taken over' the lower feature with a long rope. They were allowing tubers, swimmers, and boaters through at their discretion. Five of them were attempting to hold the rope while others 'surfed' at the other end. The result was chaos, tubers going over rocks confused [water was high], and a few getting temporarily caught up in the rope. After going over the falls [with permission from the boys] in my boat and landing my boat using my new technic on top of one of them who decided to jump into the wave in front of me I exited for the day.
A young police officer was watching all this and met me at the sidewalk "Y". I spoke to him about the danger. In 5 minutes there was an B&W SUV with a senior officer and the boys were exiting with their rope. I think it helped that as the officer showed up, the boys were running at full speed from the parking lot and jumping off the top level into the "kiddy pool", while some young kids were clinging to the side.
The positive part was that the police officer seemed very interested in my assessment of the situation. It could have been the boat, the gray in my beard, or he very well could have come to the conclusion on his own. The point is, there was a fast and appropriate response and the world was good again.
I've met a few young police officers who seem intrigued by this whole 'play boating' thing. I've told them about the Grand Opening & the opportunities to learn and test gear. Maybe the ACC should sponsor a "special" class for law enforcement. Maybe if a few [more] of these young guys got into WW, a presence on the water with some authority could be a plus. :twocents:

That's awesome, Charles. I've chatted with the young officers and they too are getting informed. Positive changes are happening, involving their enforcement of safety and the paddlers' examples, spearheaded by people like Dan and Steve.
