Lake Fayetteville Cleanup 4-13 Boaters Needed

Post by Half Ton » Thu Apr 11, 2013 8:27 pm

A lake fayetteville cleanup is taking place this Saturday from 9am - 1pm.

There is a great need for some on water cleanup and volunteers with boats can make a big difference.

Here is a report from a lake fayetteville cleanup organizer after yesterday's rain:

I often go down to the pier after heavy rain to see what birds may have flown in. I did so this evening after the flash flood. I was amazed to see a large area of open water covered with swirling trash. I have never seen anything like this on this scale before. Reminded me of those Pacific Ocean films where they show dead zones full of floating plastic. This was in the water opposite the EC boat anchorage. will be quite a challenge since assuming it stays in place it will only be accessible by boat.

Boat launches are free at the environmental study center. Lunch and door prizes from 12 to 1!

159 volunteers turned out for the Lake Fayetteville Cleanup Last Weekend and removed 1,460 lbs of trash from the Lake, it's tributaries, and surrounding parkland!!!

The Lake Fayetteville Watershed Partnership had 5 ACC members on hand for this event, you all know who you are, and your help was GREATLY appreciated and made a difference!
