Upper Big Piney Float – Sat Dec 22

If the Piney gauge remains above 1.2 tomorrow morning, I plan to float Big Piney Creek from Ft Douglas (Hwy 123 bridge) to Waterman’s Ford (approx. 5.5 mile float). Right now the gauge is 1.28 and rising.

I plan to do the trip by myself and to self-shuttle with my bike. However, I would love to share a shuttle with someone. Unless I hear from someone sooner, I will leave Little Rock at 7 am.

This is a beautiful stretch that rarely sees any paddlers. The float has a lot of long pools and a few Class I/II rapids. I have not floated this stretch at this level, but it will definitely be boney and there will be a few places that may require a portage. I hiked/biked this area last weekend, and there are a few groups of eagles in the valley that I hope to get on the camera.
