OT volcano land Hawaii info

A trip to big island Hawaii is in the works for our clan this summer. Trails around the volcano park are overwhelming. Pretty much figure we will do a couple of days there. Any experienced visitors? What are the don't miss areas? Any parts of the island for that matter. I have a 8 year old that will limit us on too aggressive but we will be good on some 4 mile or so walks. Doing some homework now to know what we want to see. I am guessing 8 and 13 yo will love the volcano area
