I remember doing that in Obliterator years ago. If it reels you back in, it ain't a very fun surf...

It reeled me back in, first thought was  and here comes the :hammer:. But worked out ok. Bucked around in a sidesurf facing river right for awhile. Got the stern to grab some of the river left side of the hole to spin me enough to get the bow to load up and toss me out. Not the recommended line.

Recommended lines through Obliterator:

Low to medium flows: Boof the right side of the rock that forms the middle part of the drop. Avoid the right side (hole) and left side (narrow notch).

High flows(pictured above): Ride the narrow tongue on the left (over the low water notch).

Real High flows: Take the sneak chute to the far left. (Just out of the photo frames above).

Other option is to use the old road bed on river right to portage if your not feeling it.

First time I was ever on EFLB I tried Lance's low-flow line at a high flow level, having never seen the drop and having just watched a guy get mauled and swim trying to run far left side in front of me. I too got into a side-surf facing right. I too got the stern to grab. And then the bow. And then the stern. And then... rinse and repeat. I finally got tired or dizzy and after a good 45 seconds of hard fighting I decided to catch my breath by swimming in the hole. Flushed once, not too deep and popped up looking at my boat in the hole. Shoved the boat hard into the hole and I went the other way. Swam down to the right bank just above the second-to-last drop with nobody in sight. Honestly believed I would die if I hadn't got out at that spot. Once on the bank (with my paddle), I jumped on a rock and watched my boat go into a hole or two and end up pinned near the left bank at the last drop in the second gorge. Waited for someone else to come down (the other three paddlers, one of whom took a short swim into the left eddy below Oblit, were walking the entire gorge expecting to find my body somewhere), finally gave up and dove in and swim-ferried over to the left bank, and got a rope clipped to my boat before it could come of the rock it was pinned on. Then I sat down and took a long break.

Not my finest moment perhaps, but I have never run Obliterator badly since. When I'm making my approach there, I'm highly motivated. :)

Awesome pics. can't believe I let myself get skunked when all I had to do was go where yall was at. It's like pouring salt on the wound. Speaking of pouring on wound, just minutes ago, I started my wine mix and don't get "acid blend" on cuts...............It burns like he$$.
