Just a reminder - Perseids Meteor shower Thursday night - Friday AM. forecast is 60/hour. Probably best after midnight.
And why is this on a canoe club message board?
Well, some of us like to look at them away from city lights on a large lake in a canoe that is all padded up so I can lean back and not kill my neck looking. I have lights on my boat so I do not get run over by go fast boats, but I put them over the side where they do not ruin my night vision or attract as many bugs.
Have tried it in a sea kayak, and the canoe has it all the way in comfort, just like with carrying a well stocked cooler.
Try it, you might like it. Probably the best meteor shower with little to no moon for the rest of the year as the ones in October, November, and December all occur with near full to half full moons. And I tend not to stay up ate freezing in a canoe unless I am camped out on the Buffalo with my -40 sleeping bag. Neat place to use a star chart too.

Which direction do I point my eyeballs at in order to see these meteors showering?

Re: Perseids meteor shower Aug 12-13th
More than 40 years ago, the Perseid Meteor shower inspired John Denver to write "I've seen it rainin' fire in the sky."

Dave - it was last night, but some will be viewable for another week or two. We saw them from every which way but most of them were from the North East...
Last one we saw was from the east as we headed back west to the landing at Monte Ne and it seemed like an over the shoulder farewell.
Glad I didn't know the trivia last night. I would have been hearing John Denver songs in my head all night. I like John Denver songs, they just stick with you a while.
Anybody want to go out again tonight? Promise not to sing.
Eric

Eric, I got up and midnight last night, hopped on my motorcycle and took off to find a dark serene road to watch the show. I took a pillow and blanket to lay on, and watched the skies for aout a hour. I saw about 10 meteors and then I started to get hot and the bugs were biting, so I headed for home. Had I still lived up in your area, I would of joined you. Pam
